Human trafficking statistics are overwhelming. It is the fastest growing source of international crime and one of the largest revenue streams for organised crime. In 2009 the UK Home Affairs Committee identified the UK as a significant destination for women, children and men being trafficked into the sex trade, and Unicef estimates there are 1.2 million children each year trafficked.
In 2011 Collective Encounters’ youth theatre wanted to explore the experiences of young people growing up in poverty around the globe. This research led them to read the real-life testimonies from victims of slavery, and within these documents they uncovered a world they, and many around them, weren’t aware of.
Transparent Truths exposes a seedy world of exploitation through physical theatre, animation and a haunting new score creating a beautiful, shocking and dramatic performance.
Transparent Truths is the story of young people living in poverty globally, told by young people, locally.
