Becoming a World Event Volunteer will provide an extraordinary opportunity to become involved in the East Midlands Cultural Olympiad. WEYA volunteering is open to people of all ages, experiences and backgrounds.

To celebrate 40 years of Friends of the Earth, Rutland Friends of the Earth is hosting "Earth Words", a poetry and illustration competition, with the theme of 'being friends with our Earth'. With celebrity judges including broadcaster Clive Anderson, award-winning poet Gillian Clarke and TV comedy writer Jon Canter, it's a great opportunity to get creative and get published. There are cash prizes reaching £150, and the best entries will feature in a celebratory book of poems, which will also include artwork and photography. Entries cost £3 for adults (or £10 for 4 submissions) and £1 for children (or £3 for 4 submissions).

This project is a practical visual arts project using knitting skills to celebrate the lost local textiles industry and the skills that
supported it. The artist will be requested to research and reference the now closed textile industry and organize a series of
community-based workshops with an emphasis on textiles or a relevant craft skill, creating a project which showcases how a basic
craft can be used to transfer skills and creativity within the community. The project should offer an opportunity for local people to
become community leaders and develop groups for skill-sharing events.

Commissioned short interpretation/documentary film of the lives of local people in relationship to their past industrial experiences, showcasing the growth and decline of the local industries of quarrying and/or mining. A small specific area of interest will be developed through research and engagement with community members. This project aims to create a legacy from local people with reference to the industrial past, giving local people a voice and inviting them into the project as significant contributors and consultants. The 2nd biennial open exhibition is a showcase for emerging or established contemporary artists living or working in the East Midlands. The exhibition is at The Collection in the New Curtois Gallery, Lincolnshire's venue for national and international contemporary visual arts. Applications are invited from contemporary fine artists working in any visual media including performance/live art. Film must be suitable for showing on a single monitor/flat screen or for single screen projection in the auditorium on specific dates. Exhibition transport costs will be met by the gallery. Entry fee is £10 and all entrants are invited to display images of their work in the Opem 2 online gallery.

We will accept painting, sculpture, drawing, prints, photography and mixed media. Unfortunately film, performances and installations are excluded for this round on the open submissions. The BBC Performing Arts Fund will be giving £450,000 to the development of new music and new musicians through two new schemes – Community Music and Music Fellowships.
Launching next month, the Community Music scheme will support grassroots music groups from across the UK. Grants awarded will allow groups to carry out training, attract new audiences, encourage new members and raise their profile in their community. Groups can apply for up to £5,000 for a distinct development project. Grants of up to £10,000 will be awarded to groups wishing to commission new music.

On March 23rd disabled asylum seekers officially claimed a space for their messages to be heard in the heart of Bristol. A painted mural composed of the drawings, ideas and messages of disabled asylum seekers will be installed in the so-called Bear Pit, the multi-road roundabout at the heart of the city, close to the famously cosmopolitan Stokes Croft district.
People who are rarely heard by anyone, not the disability movement, not the refugee community and not the government, are using art to claim a voice and a public space.
The opening event was addressed by Fr Richard chair of Bristol City of Sanctuary, Laura Welti of Disability Equality Forum, Andy Rickell of the Vassall Centre Trust and Stephen Williams MP.

WOMEX, the world music expo, is inviting proposals for showcases at WOMEX 12 taking place in Greece later this year. Equipment is provided, but other costs including transport must be met by the artists.

The Home Office has announced that non-EU artists temporarily visiting the UK for short visits will no longer have to go through the Points Based Immigration System.
From April 6th new visitors will be allowed to come through the 'Permitted Paid Engagements' (PPE) route. The new route will cater for visitors who are invited to come to the UK to carry out an engagement as professional artists, entertainers or sports people.
Key Changes include:
- Visitors will be given one month leave to enter if they have been invited to undertake pre-arranged fee paid engagements within this period
- The UK host organisation will no longer be required to keep contact details, biometric records or passport entry...

Ulfah Arts and Media in partnership with British Council launches Birmingham Active Citizens Volunteering Programme. Birmingham Active Citizens (BAC) are a group of like-minded individuals, from various community backgrounds across Birmingham.

Weave Recycle is a creative recycling centre offering a 'residency' opportunity for a crafts/designer/maker to create new work to be exhibited as part of Warwickshire Open Studios. The artist will have selected access to a working space and be expected to create a body of work with the recycled materials made available by Weave. The exhibition will take place between Sat 30th June and Sun 15th July and will be held at Weave Recycle. The work produced will be made available for sale (Weave will take a commission fee).

Without Walls is inviting artists and companies from any discipline to propose ideas for the development of new outdoor work for presentation in 2013.
They expect to invest between £2000 – £5000 in each research and development award and hope that several of the projects we support with an R+D award will be supported by Without Walls in the next stage of its development for production and presentation in 2013.
Without Walls is a consortium of 8 UK arts festivals who work together to deliver an annual programme of new outdoor arts by British artists.
