St Ethelburga's Centre is a remarkable space in the heart of the city: a medieval building dating back to 12th century. At one point the biggest building on Bishopsgate now the smallest with so many large companies and building all around us. It survived the Great fire of London in 17th century and later the 'blitz of London' during the second world war. But in 1993 the IRA let off a bomb right outside the door targeted at the Nat West tower across the road but in the process St. Ethelburga's was completely destroyed. There was a period deciding what to do with the ruins but then the Bishop of London proposed that St Ethelburga's be turned into a centre for reconciliation and peace. Fund-raising and work began and in 2003 it was officially opened by Prince Charles. Now is is a very active centre involved with a lot of peace work and Inter-faith work.
The Cultural events began in 2005, now we are just beginning our 7th season. Our exciting programme of concerts runs throughout the year with fabulous musicians form different corners of the world. We want to unite people through music and work towards our motto of reconciliation and peace.
